Surfari

Safari on iOS 6 cannot open most of today's websites: it cannot make the secure connections they require, and its 2012 engine does not understand their CSS and JavaScript. Surfari keeps the iOS 6 engine for drawing pages and does everything around it that the old system cannot: its own TLS 1.2 stack with current root certificates, modern CSS rewritten for the old engine, modern JavaScript translated by its own transpiler, WOFF2 fonts and WebP images converted on the device. No proxy and no relay server: pages come straight from the sites you visit. The other apps here offer "Open in Surfari" for web links.

• Its own TLS 1.2 stack (Mbed TLS) with current root certificates: sites with modern certificates and ciphers open directly
• Modern CSS rewritten for the old engine: custom properties, flexbox and grid, nesting, modern colours, :has(), container queries, anchor positioning
• Modern JavaScript (ES2022, ES modules) translated by its own transpiler, plus polyfills: fetch, IntersectionObserver, custom elements, IndexedDB, Intl, Web Crypto
• WOFF2 fonts and WebP images converted on the device
• Ad and tracker blocking with built-in lists, hiding of cookie banners
• Reader view, find on page, translate, print and save as PDF, downloads, view source
• Saved passwords in the device's keychain (secure sites only), private browsing, dark theme and dark pages
• Tabs, bookmarks, history, search engines with suggestions, swipe gestures; English and Czech

• iOS 6.x on armv7 only, tested on an iPad 2 with iOS 6.1.2; iOS 7 and later are not supported
• The page engine is iOS 6's own WebKit, which gets no security updates: a malicious page could take over the app. Keep certificate verification on and avoid banking or passwords you use elsewhere
• Do not keep a Surfari IPA installed at the same time as this package: they share one app identity

• 1.0.0, the first public release
