Tubie

The YouTube that shipped with iOS 6 stopped working years ago and the website no longer loads in its Safari. Tubie brings the content back in the look of the system: videos, shorts, live streams, channels, playlists and comments, with subscriptions, history and "watch later" kept on the device. It talks to YouTube the way YouTube's own apps do, through its own TLS stack, and feeds the 2012 player through a small local proxy.

Features

Videos with quality and speed choice, chapters, resume where you left off, background sound, a mini player while you browse
Shorts in a vertical player, live streams up to 720p60, playlists with continuous play, related videos
Channels with videos, shorts, live and playlists; search with suggestions and filters; comments and replies
Subscriptions, watch history and "watch later" on the device, no Google account needed; optional Google account with your own OAuth client
SponsorBlock, captions (auto-generated too), Return YouTube Dislike counts
Player gestures: double tap to skip 10 seconds, drag for brightness and volume
Light and dark theme in the iOS 6 style, English and Czech

Good to know

Long videos without an HLS stream play as the 360p MP4 that YouTube still serves in full; shorts and clips up to a minute play up to 720p, live streams up to 720p60 (the README explains why)
Tested on an iPad 2 with iOS 6.1.3; the iPhone layout has not been tried on a real iPhone yet

What's new in 0.4.2

Playback speed works: iOS 6 cannot speed up an HLS stream, so another speed than 1× plays the video's 360p MP4 and 1× returns to full quality at the same spot; iOS 15+ changes the speed directly
The chosen speed stays after a pause, buffering, the mini player and the background, and is remembered for the next videos; a speed pill in the player, also in full screen; 1.75× added
Hold a finger on the picture for 2×, as on YouTube
Links in descriptions, comments and on channel pages are tappable; YouTube links open in Tubie, links to Twitch, Kick and TikTok in the sister apps when they are installed
The iOS 6 package is offered on iOS 6.x only (64-bit devices with iOS 15 and newer use the arm64 package)
